How Data Yard is governed

Data Yard is operated by Building Materials Digital Servers Ltd (BMDS) - a company created specifically for this purpose and jointly owned by the BMF and NMBS.

It’s governance structure is designed to ensure that the platform serves the whole industry, not any single interest.

BMDS board

Data Yard is governed by the Building Materials Digital Services Ltd board, which provides strategic oversight of the platform.

The board includes representatives from the Builders Merchants Federation (BMF), National Merchant Buying Society, Buying Groups and National merchants.

Voting control is shared equally between BMF and NMBS, ensuring balanced governance and preventing any single stakeholder group from directing the platform unilaterally.

A dedicated advisory group provides industry input into the ongoing development of Data Yard.

Bringing together representatives from merchants, suppliers, buying groups, and technology partners the group helps shape development priorities, evaluate new functionality, and ensure the platform continues to meet the practical needs of the sector.
