The Product Data Standardisation Template - the industry’s agreed data standard
The Product Data Standardisation Template is the universal set of product data standards developed specifically for the UK building materials sector by the Builders Merchant Federation (BMF).
It was created collaboratively by the industry, including representatives from suppliers, merchants, industry bodies, and technology partners.
It’s agreed across the whole industry, not imposed by any single organisation, it’s led by the BMF and maintained by Data Yard.

The template was developed through a cross-functional working group involving suppliers, merchants, buying groups and other industry stakeholders.
This collaborative approach ensures it reflects real-world needs across the supply chain.
The template has been updated annually since its launch, with Version 3.1 released in September 2025.
